9 pages done and dusted. Stitching her face has been really fun, but seems to have taken months. I wish life wouldn't get in the way of my stitching so much. :D

9th-Nov-2009 09:06 pm - Why?!?!

WHY is Teresa Wentzler so...???!!! (Insert favorite adjective...) I love her patterns, but they're so dratted...intricate and intimidating. I STILL haven't started the woodland faerie or Egyptian sampler patterns. I'm not 100% certain I love either my mom or fiancé that much! LOL! I did a few practice stitches tonight from the faerie pattern - the over-one-thread crosses...eeeeeesh. I may have to get a magnifying lamp.

Hello :) I'm a Virginian who is currently on a year long volunteering stint here in the Philippines, and though this place is lovely, the people are wonderful, and the food is incredible, I am REALLY suffering from a crafting materials withdrawal. I brought quite a bit with me, but I've been having fun teaching some of the kids around here to knit and cross stitch so my stash has taken a beating.

My question is, does anyone know of an online retailer that provides digital downloads of patterns that I can print out? I'm back in Manila for a week and have internet access for the first time in a while! I'm soooo happy to be online again! Lol. I'm looking specifically for The Desiderata Sampler digital version because my mom loves this poem, and I think it'd be cool if I could give her something when I get back home. I looked in the stores in the mall, but they don't really have anything like this and I've been looking online for digital downloads, but only get results for pamphlets. Augh...I should have ordered earlier and had it delivered to my host family's place.

And to the Filipino members: where are good places outside of the malls to buy material in bulk? I want to stock up on simple kiddie patterns, aida cloth, needles, and floss so I can make up small kits for the kids here. OT but places for inexpensive yarn and knitting needles too? I've been improvising with barbecue sticks for needles and my acrylics have run out. My friend has told me that he'll take me to Quiapo and to Chinatown but he has no specific place in mind and figures he'd just ask around. How much should I expect to pay in these places for a metre of Aida, floss (doesn't have to be name brand) needles, etc?

Thanks for the info!

I'm new to this community, but been cross-stitching for awhile. I have a question....I'm going to be working on a pattern that my niece want's and I want to make for myself. It's done off of a stitching program and is printed on high quality printer paper (A4). Can I cover the pages with contact paper, or get it lamenated to re-use it? I mark where I've been on larger patterns so I don't get lost.

Thanks for the help
I really, truly have stuff to share this time. ^_^

Since we're broke this year, my husband and I decided to make ornaments for our families this year, instead of trying to buy presents. Counting parents, sibblings, neices and nephews, and grandparents, we have 35 ornaments to make! *faint*

So far I have finished the stitching on two:

John, being laid up with a knee injury, has spent most of the last several weeks on the couch stitching and watching anime and Dr. Who. He's completed nine and is almost done with his tenth. I've included his stuff in my gallery here:

All of these have the stitching done, but still need to be cut out and have the felt attached to the back.

I got some progress on Sebastian to show you, plus finally getting to reveal the reason why Sebastian and BoINK seemed to be going so slowly. :)

First, the mystery finish! )

Yes, I fell off the face of the earth for a while. I've been working on a baby bib, a knitted vest, David Tennant, and scoring alpaca yarn on EBay. Here are my WIP photos for The Shores of Hawk Run Hollow.
Big photos will NOM your dialup! )
8th-Nov-2009 11:22 am - Disaster?
I believe disaster has struck. I reached into the Dragon project to get my scissors the other day and had to pull the project itself out since they were on the bottom of the bag. There's a huge hole in the middle of it. The scissors must have pierced the fabric. I put it back in the bag without looking at it too much. I'm doing NaNoWriMo this month and am trying not to succumb to the stitching bug. So, on December 1st I will pull the project out and decide whether or not I have to order more $38 fabric from Polstitches. I'm trying not to let myself dwell on it too much, but I had to say something or I was going to break down and cry.

(This classic Dave Barry column was originally published Aug. 12, 2001.)
North Dakota is talking about changing its name. I frankly didn't know you could do that. I thought states' names were decreed by the Bible or something. In fact, as a child I believed that when Columbus arrived in North America, the states' names were actually, physically, written on the continent, in gigantic letters, the way they are on maps. I still think this would be a good idea, because if an airplane's navigational system failed, the pilot could just look out the window and see exactly where the plane was. ("OK, there's a huge 'W' down there, so we're over Wyoming. Or, Wisconsin.")
7th-Nov-2009 10:34 pm - Alone in London
Parris will soon be on her way home to take care of the cats, before they start rioting and have wild parties. So I'm pressing on by myself. Arrived in London a few hours ago. Signing at Forbidden Planet on the 11th.
On a cold and windy day (April 13, 2005, to be exact), I started a massive cross-stitch project. (Okay, it might not have been cold and windy, I don't remember. I'm trying to set some ambiance here, be quiet.)

I figured it would take me about three years to finish, by which point I would need trifocals, assuming I wasn't blind.

Four and a half years later...I have finished Page Five. (Out of sixteen. Again, be quiet.)

Where is the best place in town to get my nails did? With all the walking, my pedes (feet, perv) could use some good attention too. I want to have pretty, sparkly hands and feet. Where should I go, hamsters?

Thanks!
